Lunation: The Blog First Quarter Moon in Libra

First Quarter Moon in Libra

06/25/2023

On Saturday, July 17th we have a 1st Quarter Moon in Libra!

Because a first quarter moon involves a square between the sun and moon, we experience tension. This tension tends to manifest as internal struggle that prods us into assessing our values related to the themes of the Signs the sun and moon are in at the time.

So, let's break this down:

Sun: identity, external focus

in Cancer: nurturing, sense of belonging

is getting uncomfortable with

Moon: emotions, intuition, inner-self

in Libra: balance, harmony, one-on-one relationships (especially marriage)

because there are values coming into conflict.

Libra is an air sign, loving more from the head and seeking to maintain individual sovereignty in relationships.  Libra wants balance and harmony, which (when healthy and empowered) looks like setting and maintaining healthy boundaries and doing the work to correct imbalances in relationships.

Cancer, on the other hand, is emotional, womb-space, physical connection on a DNA level, nurturing, mother hen-type loving. It's deep and can be primal. And Cancer longs for you to belong. There is no "loving form the head" here. It's instinctive and intuitive.

As we draw closer to this 1st quarter moon, we're being asked to assess our feelings of belonging in one-on-one relationships. Do we belong to ourselvesfirst, and then with another? Or are we bleeding ourselves physically and emotionally dry because we're chasing a sense of belonging from someone who can't give it to us when we won't nurture belonging within ourselves?

Following are some meditative journaling prompts based on this 1st quarter moon's energy:

Meditative Journaling Prompts for Libra 1st Quarter Moon

  • What does it mean to me to "belong to myself?"
  • In what ways have things been feeling out of balance in my one-on-one relationships?
  • What would it take to bring things into balance or harmony?
  • In what ways am I expecting the other person to change?
  • In what ways am I expecting myself to change?
  • What is one thing I will do today to increase my sense of belonging within myself?
