Lunation: The Blog Full Moon in Scorpio

Full Moon in Scorpio

05/01/2023

On May 5, 2023, we'll be experiencing a Scorpio Full Moon that's also a Lunar Eclipse that brings an eclipse portal to a close.

Whenever the moon is full, it's at a 180 degree angle from the sun, from the perspective of the earth.  So, the sun is on one side of the earth and the moon is straight across from it on the other side of the earth. In astrology, this is called an opposition. When planets are in opposition, we simultaneously experience opposition in the areas of our lives that the particular planets involved are associated with.

Oppositions exist for us to learn to balance opposing energy. The energy of full moons (which are an opposition of the sun and moon) usually shows up as external circumstances being in opposition with your inner self. In the case of this Scorpio full moon, we are being given an opportunity to balance the energy of a Scorpio moon and a Taurus sun.

So, external circumstances related to matters of material worth and financial solvency, pleasure and beauty, stability and grounded-ness, sustaining and maintaining.... will be creating stress with internal feelings and intuitions about the worth of your soul, transformation, secrets and subconscious, instinct and therapy; death, sex, and taxes; and even ancestral healing and clearing.

So....how do you utilize the energy of this full moon to further your own personal healing and progression? You show up, make adjustments, and practice balancing. This begins to create your new reality. The 1st quarter moon was a time to take inspired action and observe the results, to become aware of and assess conflicting values. As we approach the full moon, we are being asked to make adjustments based on those observations and then continue the creation process through taking further action. To show up and take action on our values.

Since the moon will be in Scorpio, we each will likely be faced with deep, deep emotions, including edgier emotions. The ones people don't much like to talk about in the light of day--like rage and grief--but that are a crucial part of transformation and growth. Things you normally keep buried deep in your subconscious may come to the surface for you to deal with. Scheduling therapy, energy work, using your body to process emotions...all of these are valuable ways to support yourself during this Scorpio Full Moon.

If you have significant placements--particularly your sun, moon, or rising sign--in Scorpio on your Natal chart (or even on your current Solar Return chart), you will likely feel this Scorpio Full Moon quite strongly. This is also possible if you have prominent Taurus, Leo, or Aquarius placements.

I'm a natal Scorpio rising with other significant placements in Scorpio, and I tend to feel Scorpio moons quite potently. In fact, during the last Scorpio Full Moon, I had an extremely vivid dream related to some old emotional wounds that I'd thought I'd completely healed from. When I woke and talked through the dream with my hypnotherapist husband, he reminded me that dreams are often our mind's way of processing emotion and experiences that haven't been resolved another way.

Deep emotional wounds surfacing. Subconscious processing. Facing a subject that has historically been difficult for me to talk about....How very Scorpio moon-ish that whole experience was! Even the fact that I shared the experience with someone (my husband) who is trained in working with the subconscious mind speaks to the themes that make up Scorpio energy.

So...I'm definitely interested in seeing what this Scorpio Full Moon brings.

Here's a breakdown of this Scorpio Full Moon:

Moon: emotions, intuition, inner-self

in

Scorpio: soul worth, depth, intimacy, vulnerability, secrets, the Shadow, tenacity, transformation, obsession, generational matters

is experiencing external circumstances that are encouraging a balancing of perspectives with

Sun: identity, ego, external focus

in

Taurus: material worth, self-esteem, stability, practicality, pleasure, groundedness, determination, connection to the earth

that provide both a deep soul-focused and a practical substance/materially-focused perspective for each of us to practice balancing the eternal and the transient, the fluid and the stable.

Meditative Journaling Prompts for Scorpio Full Moon

{If you need a refresher on how meditative journaling works, here it is! Otherwise, skip down to the next section.

Meditative journaling is an exercise for accessing the subconscious mind and receiving answers from your own deep, inner knowing.

My recommendation is that before you read any meditative journaling prompts, you take a few moments to focus on your breathing, closing your eyes if you’d like.

Then, when you're ready, read the first question and write down whatever comes to mind. No judgment, no editing as you go. Write down whatever comes to mind, regardless of whether it seems to make sense. Then repeat this process for all the questions. Write until you feel as though you have nothing left to write.

This exercise is a simple, yet effective way to access the power of your subconscious mind and use it for your own healing.}

  • What aspects of my being do I wish I could hide or get rid of?
  • What transformation have I been resisting?
  • What are my beliefs about death?
  • What are my beliefs about sex?
  • In what ways am I being called to go deeper?
  • How do I view the worth of my soul?
  • In what ways do I allow my external environment to influence how I see my value?
  • What is the thing, right now, that I am most afraid to face?
  • What if that thing holds the key to having my deepest, most treasured desire?
  • What emotions do I not allow myself to have or express? What thoughts and feelings of mine are taboo?
  • How would it feel to accept and love all parts of myself, even the parts I'm currently afraid to see or acknowledge?

Through light and shadow,

Kayelee
